Built on the initiative of the monks of the abbey between the 11th and 16th centuries, the imposing hall of Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives is one of the jewels of Norman medieval heritage.
Ranked among the largest in France thanks to its 70 m long and 20 meters wide, it still retains its commercial vocation today by hosting the authentic Monday morning market and several annual fairs. Many other events are organized there throughout the year: trade fairs, concerts and the Christmas market on the second weekend of December.
A magnificent oak frame crowns the whole. Damaged by the bombardments of the Second World War, it was restored and inaugurated in 1949 in accordance with medieval construction techniques.
