Ensemble Variances Anne Warthmann, soprano - Anne Cartel, flute Nicolas Prost, saxophones - Romuald Grimbert-Barré, violin Marie Vermeulin, piano - Thierry Pécou, keyboards Works by Philip Glass, Colin McPhee, José Evangelista, Thierry Pécou, John Adams Thierry Pécou is a living composer, always between two journeys. His roots lie in the West Indies, while his music blossoms in the sunlight of all the world?s cultures. For his Variances ensemble, he brings together the influences of gamelan - the Indonesian percussion orchestra - on several generations of 20th- and 21st-century Western composers. American stars Philip Glass and John Adams, Canadian pioneers Colin McPhee and José Evangelista, and Thierry Pécou himself, on electric keyboards. No traditional Balinese instruments, but their echo in a modern ensemble, for a sonic excursion, an energetic ritual where the present from here and the memory from there meet.
