Saint-Germain-de-Livet castle

A true jewel of the Pays d'Auge located near Lisieux, the Château de Saint-Germain-de-Livet, listed as a Historic Monument, is remarkable for its architecture.

Surrounded by a moat, it considers a half-timbered mansion from the end of the 15th century and a stone and glazed brick construction from the Pré d'Auge from the end of the 16th century. The office room is an essential stopover in the discovery of the castle, because it preserves superb frescoes from the end of the 16th century.

This Château-museum, labeled Musée de France, presents the furnishings and collections of the family who donated the estate to the city of Lisieux in 1958. Combining furniture and works of art, the interior testifies to the refinement and art of living in the 19th century and offer to discover the artistic and personal career of the painter Léon Riesener, grandson of cabinetmaker Jean-Henri Riesener and cousin of Eugène Delacroix.
